Jewellery & Gem ASIA Hong Kong Special Edition opens today!

More than 150 suppliers launch latest collections in city’s first jewellery sourcing fair of the year

HONG KONG, 16 June 2022 – Jewellery & Gem ASIA Hong Kong Special Edition (JGA) is bringing the industry back together for four days of wholesale product sourcing, market-focused conversations and exclusive jewellery offers. Kicking off today and running through Sunday in Hall 1 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), JGA hosts more than 150 select exhibitors offering a wide range of choices across main product categories, including finished jewellery, diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, and tools and machinery.

“Events like JGA Special Edition are catalysts for new business opportunities, new partnerships and fresh ideas,” said David Bondi, Senior Vice President of Informa Markets in Asia. “We know this year’s edition will be different from our buying events of previous years but we also recognise that our community is counting on us to ensure that everyone is stocked and ready for the seasons ahead.”
The special edition caters mainly to Hong Kong-based trade buyers consisting of wholesalers, retailers and brands, but also welcomes jewellery lovers who are keen on acquiring curated collections handpicked by the exhibitors themselves for onsite-only direct purchase. The show’s buyer profile is aligned with JGA’s pre-fair projections in terms of visitor traffic given Hong Kong’s mandatory seven-day quarantine requirement for international arrivals and border travel arrangements with China.
Warmly received by exhibitors following its launch last year, the show’s innovative staging creates additional cross-market opportunities and onsite sales for suppliers while getting jewellery lovers excited about the latest products, designs and innovations in the industry, said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery.
“Exhibitors said the fair allowed them to collect immediate and genuine feedback from jewellery lovers about their latest collections and future product developments. One major jewellery manufacturer even said that in addition to connecting with Hong Kong-based brands, he received valuable product reviews from more than a hundred visitors in just a couple of days, and these are insights that he cannot get from anywhere else,” said Lau. Primarily featuring Hong Kong-based exhibitors, JGA will also present showcases by suppliers from Japan and China.
The fair is aiming for a repeat of its 2021 success. Last year, it attracted 9,078 unique visitors (34% trade and 66% non-trade) who made 10,608 visits throughout four show days. Its comprehensive educational seminars drew a combined audience of more than 500 attendees while livestreaming videos broadcast in Mandarin gathered 17,198 views.
“We are once again expanding the reach of JGA beyond the show venue through livestreaming sessions, which drew overwhelmingly positive reviews from our exhibitors last year,” Lau added. “We are constantly looking for creative ways of leveraging livestreaming as a means of engaging with buyers in Greater China and beyond, and scaling up our events.”
